Antpress teaching program

Antpress recently opened its doors to those interested in fine art printmaking workshops and classes. The studio is the only one of its kind on the South Coast and is located in Mollymook.

The Antpress printmaking studio began its teaching schedule in April this year and has held some beginners’ workshops and a full course schedule planned for the rest of the year.

The workshops and classes are taught by expert printmaker, Andrew Antoniou, who has been involved in printmaking for 35 years and is a well-respected teacher and artist. He has exhibited in the Dobell Drawing Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW five times and is an elected member of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers.

Andrew Antoniou. CONJUROR’S TRICK
Charcoal on paper

The technique involves etching an image into a metal plate and then inking it and printing it onto handmade paper – several prints can be taken from each metal plate. Prints can also be taken from perspex (monoprinting), paper (collography) and glass (vitography). The studio is located in Mollymook and has been recently renovated to accommodate a new fine art press and ample room for classes of four to six students. Andrew says this is the ultimate way to learn printmaking.

Weekend workshops include all materials and gourmet lunches and aim at helping the student to complete a print by the end of the second day, while evening classes are geared towards those who would like to take the slower approach to the medium.
