Suzanne Chick gallery |
| Rush! is pleased to present the works of Vincentia artist, Suzanne Chick.
Chick is well known in the Shoalhaven area for her vibrant, light-filled works. She is a regular exhibitor in local exhibitions and a committee member of several arts groups. The works in this gallery were featured in 'Peeling the Lotus', an exhibition at the Village Green Cafe in Mosman, Sydney in August this year. The title is a reference to a book about a family's life on a Greek Island, 'Peel Me A Lotus' written in the 1950s by Charmian Clift, the artist's life mother. Chick has been a full-time writer and painter since she resigned from a long art teaching career. A high point of her painting career was her time as artist-in-residence at Arthur Boyd's property, Riversdale on the Shoalhaven. Although she lives and works at Vincentia overlooking the clear waters and white sands of Jervis Bay, Mosman was an appropriate place for her colourful works. Chick's life has been inextricably linked with that suburb. Adopted at birth, she grew up in Mosman, all unknowing her birthmother, famous writer and much-loved columnist Charmian Clift also lived there on the crest of the next ridge. Chick's story of discovering her birthmother was told in her best-selling book 'Searching for Charmian'. Chick is currently developing a body work for an exhibition at the Forest Gallery in January, 'Ebb and Flow'. |
