The Joy to Create

It has been said Glenda Borchard has a ‘capricious sense of humour’ and a ‘striking imagination’ which is conveyed in her paintings. She describes each of her works as an ‘invitation to the viewer', whether it be a simple landscape to a whimsical experience that creates pondering. ‘I love to create an image that stimulates question and discovery.’

Borchard has lived on the south coast of New South Wales for 12 years since moving from the northern beaches of Sydney where she was involved in creative contemporary dance and choreography.

Since relocating to the south coast, Borchard has developed ceramics, drawing and painting skills, producing works which carry surrealist influences and strong colour usage. The concept of laying colours upon colour to allow contrasts to show through is a consistent characteristic of her work, whether it is oils, pastels or mixed media.

‘I love the joy of colour and the pleasure creating different and interesting works that people enjoy to live with,’ she said.

Borchard said her art is a journey that allows her to express her desires, feelings, humour and memories through visual means. Colour is at the centre of her work, she believes colour creates a visual feast of enjoyment.

Since 1995, Borchard has been represented in many group exhibitions, most recently Precinct Galleries and The Art Group both in Berry, during May.

Solo exhibitions have included several works hung in the Shoalhaven City Council foyer recently as well as shows at The Tea Club in Nowra, Art for Art Sake Gallery in Wollongong.

Australian Artist will publish an extensive story on the process of Borchard’s work later in the year.
